Paetech Purchases Chicago Switch

July 13, 2000 -- PaeTec Corp. said today it has purchased an existing switch at South Federal Street in Chicago, Illinois, from another carrier.
Fairmont, N.Y.-based PaeTech said the purchase of the Lucent 5ESS® AnyMedia(TM)switch will the company to accelerate its plans to provide communications services to Illinois businesses.
As part of the deal, PaeTec assumed a lease covering 4,600 square feet of space, which it will use for switch expansion and customer colocation. PaeTec has been certified by the Illinois Commerce Commission to provide local, long distance, data and Internet services in the state.
"`We are very excited about the addition of this latest switching facility,'' said Richard Ottalagana, PaeTec's executive vice president and treasurer.
PaeTec Communications, Inc.provides broadband services to medium and large sized businesses, colleges and universities, hospitals, governmental organizations and affinity groups. It currently operates in 25 markets, including: Albany, Baltimore, Boston, Buffalo, Connecticut, Fort Lauderdale, Long Island, Los Angeles, Miami, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York City, Orlando, Orange County, Philadelphia, Rhode Island, Rochester, San Diego, Northern Virginia, Syracuse, Washington DC, and Western Massachusetts.
