July 26, 2000 -- Internet infrastructure service provider Loudcloud, Inc. today said it would expand beyond Silicon Valley, providing customers with data center space in the Washington, D.C. area and New Jersey.
As part of the expansion, Loudcloud has also opened new sales and support offices. Jim Fitzgerald, Vice President of Sales Eastern Region, will immediately oversee offices in New York City and the Tysons Corner, Virginia/Washington, D.C. area.
Loudcloud was co-founded by Marc Andreesen, the former Netscape and America Online executive who played a key role in developing Mosaic, the first graphical Web browser.
Loudcloud has formed strategic partnerships to offer data center space in the Washington D.C. area, with additional space available in New Jersey next month. Loudcloud customers can now locate their Internet presence closer to their end customers or mirror their data in multiple locations as part of a disaster recovery plan.
"The East Coast expansion will give Loudcloud customers an upper hand in their own regional expansion,'' said Ben Horowitz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Loudcloud. "Just as our infrastructure technology is designed to scale quickly and meet the demands of our customers, Loudcloud is scaling physically to provide the kind of geographic resources needed to service our customers nationwide.''
Loudcloud said the announcement is part of an expansion of its network of data centers in major "Internet business'' metropolitan hubs. By offering multiple geographic locations, Loudcloud plans to offer its customers more consistent levels of service and performance.
Loudcloud customers, who range from Fortune 500 enterprises to high-growth Internet companies to application service providers, utilize Loudcloud's Smart Cloud services to get to market quickly and cost-effectively. The company says Smart Cloud enables Loudcloud to bring a business live on the Internet in about a month on a secure foundation that has 100 percent guaranteed scheduled uptime.
Loudcloud, Inc. was formed in September 1999 to build and run best-of-breed infrastructure services designed for high-growth Internet businesses, ASPs, and Fortune 500 companies.
