Cable & Wireless Opens London Facility

July 11, 2000 --Cable & Wireless opened a new data center in Swindon, England today, calling it one of the largest data and web hosting centers in Europe.
C&W is investing $1 billion in Europe to extend the coverage of the core OC-192 IP network, connecting 200 cities across the continent.
"This is another key step in the delivery of Cable & Wireless' IP and data strategy," said Graham Wallace, Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless. "With these worldwide web hosting centers linked to our global IP network, Cable & Wireless can provide customers with world-class communications, hosting, e-commerce, application service requirements, and guaranteed performance levels.''
Patricia Hewitt, Government Minister for Small Business and E-commerce was on hand for the opening of the new facility, which features over 130,000 square feet of web hosting floor space. It is directly connected to the Cable & Wireless global IP (Internet Protocol) backbone.
