Aug. 22, 2000 -- MetroNexus and Core Location have announced
the closing of adeal to complete a technologically advanced ``carrier
hotel'' in Atlanta.
With
approximately 1 million square feet of leaseable space, the two
companies said the Metro Technology Center Atlanta will be one
of the largest buildings of its kind in the world, joining Core
Location's 1.1 million square foot Lakeside Technology Center
in Chicago.
MetroNexus, which acquires and develops carrier hotels in North
America and Europe, was founded in May by The Morgan Stanley Real
Estate Funds.
"MetroNexus
is extremely excited to work with Core Location to develop what
will be one of the largest and most advanced telecommunications
and technology centers,'' said Eric Assimakopoulos, Chief Executive
Officer of MetroNexus, LP.
Metro
Technology Center Atlanta is located in both an Atlanta Enterprise
Zone and an Empowerment Zone, and will be fully renovated and
ready for occupancy in the fourth quarter of 2000.
The developers said the center is ideally suited for telecommunications
and Internet companies, and will house the industry's most advanced
support facilities; designed to meet the growing demand of companies
that require massive physical space for their data and telecommunications
needs.
"Metro
Technology Center Atlanta is much more than just a warehouse for
high-tech hardware,'' says Michael Jacoby, President of Core Location.
"It's a secure provider of leaseable space with highly engineered
infrastructure capable of housing state-of-the-art telecommunications
and data equipment. Carrier hotels enable telecommunications and
Internet companies to share costly resources such as power, fiber-optics
access, environmental improvements and security.''
Among MetroNexus' newest facilities is an 800,000 square foot
telecommunications and technology center in Houston with eight
fiber providers in close proximity including Qwest, Southwestern
Bell & Time Warner. 50 Dey Street in Jersey City is over one million
square feet located in the highly desirable Metro New York City
Area with Bell Atlantic, Level 3 and AT&T to provide fiber to
the building.
MetroNexus also has 180,000 square foot facilities in Montreal
and Stockholm. The facilities are scheduled to be opened in the
fourth quarter of 2000 and 1st Quarter of 2001. Simultaneously
with the opening of MTCA, Core Location is planning the development
of the San Jose Technology Center in downtown San Jose, California.
The building is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2000.
