CarrierHotels News Staff
Sept. 12, 2000 -- FirstWorld Communications, Inc. today
opened its latest Internet Data Center (IDC) in Irvine, Calif.,
adding approximately 50,000 gross square feet to its network.
The
latest facility brings FirstWorld's total number of IDCs to nine,
with a total gross square footage of nearly 220,000 square feet.
FirstWorld expects to open one additional IDC by the end of the
year, a 30,000 square foot center in Houston, Tex.
FirstWorld said its Irvine facility has already pre-sold 17 percent
of its 31,000 square feet of colocation and hosting space, which
will be installed over an 18-month period.
"The
fact that we have been able to pre-sell 17 percent of this newest
FirstWorld data center really speaks to both the strength of our
product offering and the quality of our data center space,'' said
David Gandini, COO of FirstWorld. "California is a key market
for us as FirstWorld continues to grow and gain momentum."
The Irvine IDC complements existing FirstWorld centers in San
Diego, Glendale and Santa Clara. The company also has facilities
in Colorado, Oregon, Texas and Utah.
FirstWorld
Communications, Inc., headquartered in Denver, Colo., is a
