Oct. 27, 2000 -- Globix Corporation says it has begun construction
on a new SuperPOP Internet Data Center at 415 Greenwich Street,
in the Tribeca district of New York City.
The new 193,000-square foot facility is expected to begin providing
colocation, and web hosting services in the first half of 2001,
the company said in an announcement at the annual Internet World
conference.
Globix currently has five SuperPOP facilities operating in New
York City, Santa Clara, Calif., London, Atlanta and McLean, Va.
Five more, including the Greenwich Street site, are in the development
and planning stages worldwide.
The new data centers will increase the Globix gross data center
space to more than 1.4 million square feet, from 289,000 gross
square feet today.
"As
companies have realized the cost benefits of outsourcing their
Internet applications, we've witnessed tremendous demand for our
managed Internet Data Center services," said Marc H. Bell,
chairman and CEO of Globix. "We are building more data center
space to help us capture this demand in one of our core markets."
Like the existing New York Data Center, the new Globix
SuperPOP (Point of Presence) will provide dual connections to
the area's power grid, redundant Uninterruptible Power Supply
(UPS) systems and back-up generators, 24 x 7 x 365 on-site monitoring
and technical staffing, advanced biometric security and redundant
temperature-control and fire-suppression systems.
Globix Corporation is a leading
provider of managed Internet services and connectivity for businesses
in the United States and Europe.
