EV1Servers
Expands Power Capacity
Fast-growing provider maxed out available power from Houston utility
Nov. 10, 2003 -- Remember when data center builders used
to fret about being able to obtain enough power to satisfy the
crush of customers that would soon swamp their facilities? It
didn't happen in very many places.
But
that dot-com era fantasy has become reality in recent months for
EV1Servers (formerly Rackshack), the Houston-based dedicated server
specialist that has experienced phenomenal growth with its $99
a month servers.
EV1Servers
has been wrestling with power issues since August, when it maxed
out its available power service from CenterPoint Energy and had
to suspend a popular $1 setup promotion to put the brakes on its
growth.
Today
EV1Servers said it had resolved its short-term power problems
and has leased space to build out a second Houston-area data center
to accommodate additional growth. A construction project provided
the company with access to a separate segment of the Houston power
grid, which will allow it to make more than 1,500 servers available
in coming weeks.
"I am very
pleased that we have overcome one of the most serious challenges
EV1Servers has faced," says Robert Marsh, CEO and Head Surfer.
"We are truly grateful for our customers patience and support.
We are taking every measure possible to meet their long-term hosting
needs."
The company has also leased a 45,000 square foot Houston facility,
which will eventually be able to house 30,000 additional servers.
EV1Servers plans to spend $3.5 million on a Phase I buildout for
10,000 servers.
EV1Servers
was known as Rackshack prior to a name change last month, and
houses more than 18,000 servers and 600,000 hostnames. It recently
began offering domain registrations for $5 a year, and registered
10,000 domains during the first month. EV1Servers continues to
be one of the fastest-growing hosting companies in the world,
according to recent
data from Netcraft. It
is a unit of Everyone's Internet.
