Switch
and Data Opens NYC Center
Company's third Big Apple colo facility is 50 percent leased
May 17, 2001 -- Switch and Data has announced the opening
of a third New York City colocation center, increasing the carrier-neutral
provider's Manhattan footprint to 40,000 square feet.
The
new facility on the 15th floor of 111 Eighth Avenue is over 50
percent pre-sold, the Tampa-based company said. Switch and Data
already had a presence at the 111 Eighth Avenue carrier hotel
through its June 2000 acquisition of Extranet. The former Extranet
location on the building's fifth floor quickly reached capacity,
prompting Switch and Data to expand.

"Opening a third (data center) in Manhattan is in
line with our strategic plan to offer multiple facilities in key
metro markets,'' said Patricia Higgins, president and CEO of Switch
and Data. "The opening of our second center at 111 Eighth
Avenue also demonstrates our ability to design and construct premium
colocation centers in record time.
"New
York City is one of the most challenging areas to build a new
facility, and our internal team executed flawlessly, completing
this project in less than seven months,'' Higgins added.
In addition to its two locations at 111 Eighth Avenue, Switch
and Data also operates a data center - which the company calls
a Convergent Network Center - at 65 Broadway, in the heart of
the New York financial district.
Switch
and Data operates a nationwide network of colocation centers,
with facilities in 34 U.S. markets.
