Expands Chicago Center
March 5, 2001 -- Data center operator Equinix, Inc. today
announced the expansion of its Chicago Internet Business Exchange
(IBX) center, resulting in a significant increase in customer
capacity.
The 68,000 square foot addition brings the center to 140,000
square feet, one of the largest Internet hubs in the Chicago area,
the company said. Equinix said customer demand for its Internet
infrastructure services has driven an expansion program that brings
the company's footprint to 611,000 square feet in six IBX centers.
Participants in the Chicago IBX center include Cable &
Wireless, Digital Island, Excite@Home, IBM, InterNAP, Level 3
Communications, Inc., Qwest, SiteSmith, StorageNetworks, Inc.,
and UUNET/WorldCom, Inc.
"Equinix's large centers ensure IBX participants have the
widest possible choice of best-in-breed partners all under the
same roof," said Peter Van Camp, CEO of Equinix. "In
fact, Equinix provides customers with direct access to the networks
that serve more than 85 percent of the world's Internet traffic.''
Equinix designs, builds and
operates neutral IBX data centers. The company's five other IBX
centers are located in the greater New York, Washington, D.C.,
Dallas, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley areas.
