PAIX.Net
Opens Second Bay Area Facility
June 11, 2001 -- PAIX.Net, Inc., a subsidiary of Metromedia
Fiber Network, said today that it will open a second Bay Area
facility next month, linking both centers so customers can easily
exchange traffic.
The
new San Francisco facility is located at at 365 Main Street, Suite
100 in the South of Market area, and offers accessibility to metro
area fiber infrastructure providers, Class A facility specifications,
and ample space to handle the high demand for Internet connectivity
and Internet traffic exchange in the Bay Area.
"Both
existing and potential PAIX customers have been anticipating this
new Bay Area location,'' said Paul Vixie, president of PAIX.Net,
Inc. "This steadily growing demand illustrates the ongoing
need for Internet providers to connect with one another, even
as the Internet community reshapes and redefines itself.
To ensure
seamless interconnectivity for its Bay Area participants, PAIX
will link the sites to provide a single peering switch fabric
that permits both public peering and virtual private peering.
"The interconnection between San Francisco and Palo Alto
will be seamless, offering all the connectivity options between
the facilities as we do within each facility,'' said Tim Guarnieri,
VP and General Manager of PAIX.Net, Inc.
Headquartered
in Palo Alto, Calif., PAIX.Net
began operations in 1996 as Digital Equipment Corporation's Palo
Alto Internet Exchange. PAIX has locations in the San Francisco
Bay Area, Vienna, Va., Seattle, New York City, Atlanta, and Dallas,
and will open additional facilities in Boston and Los Angeles
this summer.
