Crossing Connects to Equinix Centers
WIll offer data transport service to Equinix IBX customers
July 9, 2001 -- Global Crossing will offer its broadband
services in Equinix, Inc.'s national network of data centers,
the two companies said today.
Under the terms of the agreement, Global Crossing will establish
network Points of Presence (POPs) in Equinix six data centers
and make its data transport services available to other Internet
companies operating in Equinix's open marketplaces for Internet
infrastructure services.
Direct interconnection to Global Crossing's network allows Equinix
customers to enhance service delivery, speed and time to market
for new services, while reducing local loop costs.
"Equinix
has developed a critical mass of Internet companies participating
in its centers that represent an opportunity for us to provide
Global Crossing's IP Network Services to a large aggregation of
existing and potential customers under one roof,'' said Paul Pluschkell,
president of Global Crossing NextGen Markets.
"This agreement further demonstrates our commitment to providing
the widest possible choice of premium providers of Internet infrastructure
services in a neutral environment,'' said Peter Van Camp, chairman
and CEO of Equinix.
Equinix
said its customers how have a choice of more than 30 networks.
The company operates its Internet Business eXchange (IBX) centers
in greater New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles
and Silicon Valley.
Global
Crossing provides telecommunications solutions over the world's
first integrated global IP-based network, which will have approximately
100,000 route miles, reaching 27 countries and more than 200 major
cities.
