  • Jan. 9, 2003 -- Terremark Worldwide, Inc., the operator of the NAP of the Americas, has announced a partnership with Hewlett-Packard to provide joint services to Latin American companies.
The "Hemispheric Partnership" will offer the two providers' combined services to enterprise customers and carriers in HP's facilities in Latin America and Terremark's NAP projects.
Under the terms of the multi-year agreement, Terremark and HP will share the cost and revenues from the partnership. HP will provide its services and products, as well as access to its base of enterprise customers and hosting sites, as well as "finance capabilities," according to a joint release.
Terremark will provide its state-of-the-art Gigabit Ethernet (GIG/E) peering fabric, network engineering, design and operation services, access to existing Tier-1 carrier customer base, and some professional services.
The arrangement provides Terremark with a powerful brand-name partner with deep pockets. Following its recent merger with Compaq Computer Corporation, Hewlett-Packard now has more than 145,000 employees worldwide and business presence in more than 160 countries, serving more than 1 billion customers.
"We chose Terremark because of their core network expertise and know-how and their proven track record in operating state-of-the-art Internet infrastructures," said Eduardo Araujo, vice president of HP Services in Latin America. "This is the first step in establishing a long-term relationship between HP and Terremark.
"As the two companies further define areas of technological and marketing cooperation, we look forward to the potential development of new products and services to provide our vast list of customers with the cost-effective solutions and value-added services they need," added Araujo.
"By combining HP's industry leadership with Terremark's unique business model, we are optimizing customer services and business performance at a critical time in our industry," said Manuel D. Medina, Chairman and CEO of Terremark. "Knowing that the Internet has become a household word throughout the world, that demand and growth for connectivity is only scratching the surface and that the Internet has become 'a must have' in today's economy, we firmly believe that by forging strategic partnerships with world-class providers, such as HP, we can better serve our mutual and prospective customers for years to come."
Terremark Worldwide Inc. provides Internet infrastructure and managed services through Tier-1 Network Access Points (NAPs).
