Electric Buys Long Island ISP
Jan. 15, 2002 -- Hurricane Electric has purchased Long
Island ISP Lightning Internet Services, allowing California-based
Hurricane to expand into the greater New York market.
Hurricane
Electric said it has acquired the rights to all of Lightning Internet
Services facilities, customers and equipment and the option to
assume specific contracts.
"By
acquiring Lightning Internet Services, we can now broaden our
colocation and web hosting services to New York and surrounding
areas,'' said Mike Leber, president of Hurricane Electric. "This
acquisition will allow us to better serve our customers on the
East Coast and in Europe with the addition of offices and personnel
in New York.''
Leber
said existing Lightning customers should experience no interruption
of services or problems associated with the acquisition. Rates
will remain the same; however, Lightning Internet Services' customers
will have newer higher bandwidth options available to them, some
at a reduced rate.
The acquisition adds offices in Mineola and Farmingdale, NY to
Hurricane Electric's existing facilities in San Jose and Fremont,
Calif. along with equipment in New York, Washington DC, and Sunnyvale,
Calif. and San Jose, Calif.
