Telecom Building Adds Meet-Me Room
Addition
will facilitate interconnects at 800 South Hope
August
27, 2001 -- Thomas Properties Group this week announced completion
of its new meet-me-room at 800 South Hope Street, a 250,000 square-foot
telecom building in the central business district of Los Angeles.
The
addition of the meet-me room will provide tenants easier access
to the building's multiple fiber-optic network providers, including
MCI WorldCom, Verizon, Time Warner Telecom and Southern California
Edison.
MCI WorldCom
occupies 85 percent of the building, which serves as the termination
point for its recently completed trans-Pacific fiber optic network.
Thomas
Properties officials say the meet-me room will enhance the building's
position in the Los Angeles market for telecom/Internet facilities.
"Many
telecom providers want a presence in 800 South Hope to gain access
to MCI WorldCom, and the main Los Angeles fiber loop," said Mark
R. Laderman, a director with Thomas Properties and the project
executive. "Connectivity to the nearby One Wilshire telecom building
has also been a major selling point for prospective Meet-Me-Room
occupants."
Access to One Wilshire is provided through WilCon, a connection
between telecom buildings in downtown Los Angeles.
The meet-me
room features a pre-action fire suppression system, two 20-ton
Liebert air-conditioning units, plus back up power systems featuring
a 2000 kva generator and UPS system.
Mark
Messana and Eric Bender, principals in telecom advisor Global
Gateway, served as consultants on the project. "Mark and Eric
are nationally recognized as originating the Meet-Me-Room concept
in Los Angeles, most notably at One Wilshire," said Laderman.
Los Angeles-based
Thomas Properties
Group owns and manages more than 4 million square feet of
office and retail space, with an additional 3.6 million square
feet under development.
