Ex-Microsoft
Execs Acquire Titan I
Data center in Washington state housed in former Air Force missile
facility
April 12, 2002 -- Former Microsoft executives John Agnew
and Bob Caldwell are now majority owners of Titan I, a data center
based in a former U.S. government missile site in Moses Lake,
Wa.
The
project is the latest entry in the market for "ultra-secure"
data centers, offering isolated locations and extraordinarily
sturdy physical infrastructure.
The Moses
Lake facility, a former Air Force site designed during the Cold
War to withstand a 10 megaton nuclear explosion, is being marketed
as a disaster recovery site for companies seeking secure data
storage.
"Due
to the events in our country last year, companies are also more
concerned about storing their data off-site and away from an urban
area that might be a likely target in a terrorist attack," said
Agnew.
"Having
local ownership, particularly people with strong ties to both
the Seattle technology community and to the economic development
of eastern Washington, strengthens the overall value of the Titan
project," said Rob Savette of Titan I LLC. "Between the two of
them, John and Bob have years of data center experience with the
unique perspective of having been the consumer in the marketplace.
Their experience will be a guiding force in how TITAN is developed."
Titan
I LLC, which is headquartered in Seattle, acquired the former
U.S. Air Force facility in 1997 and last year began converting
it into a data center. The project is currently in the design
phase.
