Verado
Sells Dial-Up Business
Earthlink buys subscriber base
April 18, 2001 -- Managed hosting provider Verado has sold
its FirstWorld Internet Services dial-up subscriber base to EarthLink,
the two companies announced today. Neither company released the
terms of the sale.
The
deal represents another step in Verado's strategy to sell off
its non-core assets in order to focus on its Web hosting and managed
services business. Verado operates nine data centers across the
Western United States.
Verado, formerly known as First World, said its dial-up subscriber
base grew substantially during the past two years, and is centered
primarily in Colorado, California, Oregon, Washington and Texas.
Two weeks ago, Verado announced it had terminated money-losing
contracts to provide Internet services to the city of Anaheim,
Calif.
Atlanta-based EarthLink has 4.7 million subscribers, and
has grown rapidly thorugh acquisitions that have given it 6,500
dial-up points of presence around the country.
Denver-based Verado is a provider
of outsourced data center and managed service solutions for businesses.
It currently operates data centers in Denver, Dallas, Houston,
Portland, Santa Clara, Irvine, San Diego, Glendale and Salt Lake
City.
