Unveils Newark Network Center
April 10, 2001 -- FiberNet Telecom Group, Inc., a provider
of metropolitan optical connectivity, today unveiled a new Network
Operations Center (NOC) in Newark, N.J. which will monitor the
company's nationwide network.
Local officials hailed the opening as another sign of Newark's
emergence as . The city is home to a number of significant carrier
hotel and telecom facilities helping proivde service to New York
and ntoehrn New Jersey.
"FiberNet's
decision to open its operations center in New Jersey is a dynamic
validation of Newark's emerging role as America's newest 'wired
city' and a leader in the electronic economy,'' said Newark Mayor
Sharpe James, who was scheduled to be on hand at a grand opening
cermeony today at 1 Gateway Center in Newark.
Scaleable for future network growth and technology development,
FiberNet's NOC will monitor existing network facilities in New
York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
"FiberNet is delighted to open its new facility with the
help of distinguished government officials who've helped companies
strategically locate in New Jersey,'' said FiberNet CEO Michael
Liss. "This move enables FiberNet to maximize network capabilities,
preserve optimum security, and provide our carrier customers with
state-of-the-art end-to-end network connections.''
FiberNet received a "significant" grant from
the New Jersey Business Employment Incentive Program, a factor
in the company's decision to establish the Center in New Jersey.
