Peering Exchange Operated by Speakeasy Supports Direct Interconnections Between Network Providers, Supporting the Technical and Business Needs of Tenants at 2323 Bryan Street
Menlo Park, Calif. (May 2, 2005) - Digital Realty Trust, Inc. (NYSE: DLR), an owner and manager of technology-related properties, today announced that its Dallas Internet Gateway will house the first no-cost, neutral Internet peering exchange in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Dallas/Fort Worth Internet Exchange (DFWIX) will be operated by Speakeasy (www.speakeasy.net ), the nation's largest independent broadband services provider, and it will be located in the Meet-Me Room of the Digital Realty Internet Gateway at 2323 Bryan Street (the Univision Tower) in Dallas.
Internet Peering Exchanges allow network providers to create direct interconnections between their networks in order to achieve the most efficient and cost-effective means of exchanging data that is destined for each network. This allows network providers to avoid the costs and delays incurred from the "multiple hops" involved in exchanging data through third-party providers that facilitate the data transfer. There will be no port charges for connectivity to the DFWIX, and with the Digital Realty Meet-Me-Room policy of no cross-connection fees participants are able to achieve peering arrangements in the most cost-effective manner.
